Story behind the CD

This CD started with the song Fairy Tale, which I wrote on New Year's Day 2010. I started with a tune and a few words. Then a theme developed and I started thinking of princes and princesses and the romantic aspects of love. The tune was catchy and happy, and the theme was about love that lasts forever.

It took many months of re-writing that song to figure out how I wanted it to sound. I got input from lots of people and changed things here and there. At the same time, I was learning how songs are constructed, how to simplify phrases while sending strong messages, and how to use different strum patterns. Everything was an experiment and a learning experience. That's how Fairy Tale was created and I think it has that feeling of being fresh and new, just like I was new to songwriting, and just like love.

The next song I wrote was Stay with Me, in the early part of the Summer 2010. It had a totally different feel. I write my songs on my guitar and I had been playing around with different chords and strum patterns. I found a combination that I liked. Again, sounds turned into melodies in my head and I started writing lyrics. This one turned out to be a classic "getting dumped" song.

This gave me an idea... what about a theme CD? One all about love. One about the different kinds of love you feel, or the phases you go through in a relationship. One about the Stages of Love, when sometimes, you're just S.O.L..

I continued writing songs of love over that summer. A few made it to the CD, but some didn't fit with the theme or stages that I wanted the CD to describe so I'm keeping those for a future CD :). I actually wrote Love Doctor in the lunch room of my mom's office building. I went to work with her one day (school was out, so what the heck!) and I brought my guitar. I was messing around with silly phrases and I came up with this Love Doctor theme. I used words that had an injury context – I had a "love emergency".

With these three songs written, I was looking for a way to start the CD – a prelude. One Sunday afternoon, I was alone in my room playing my guitar. My parents were out shopping and on their way home when I called my mom and played a new song over the phone. It was Goodbye, entirely written in one afternoon. I liked it, but it wasn't about the beginning of a relationship. It was the prelude to Stay with Me.

I had been working on bits and pieces of songs throughout the Fall 2010. I kept coming back to one. I had an approximate melody, but I couldn't find the right words. It had a mysterious feel, but in a hopeful way, not a dark way. I was searching for words, just like searching for love. In the end, I decided that perhaps it was meant to be incomplete – an Unfinished Fantasy. A hopeful finish to a CD about love.

Letting Go was the final song of the CD to be written. I was actually hoping to finish the CD before Christmas, but the details take time and I was still at the recording studio. It was January 2011, a year after I wrote that first song. I had learned a lot and I was having a lot of fun. One Saturday, I wrote the beginnings of the first verse and the chorus. I spent the afternoon bouncing ideas off my mom. By the end of the day, I had Letting Go. It's my favourite song on the CD. A little bit of rock and a dash of attitude. A little bit like me.

I think there's a little something for everyone on this CD and hopefully something that you can relate to. So find your favourite song, hit the play button, and enjoy the music. And feel free to sing along – I sure do!

Keep smiling!

Sitting in my room on a Wednesday night
I'm looking at the stars
but I wanna know where you are
And every moment that I think of you,
Will always take my breath away
And it won't ever be the same
When we will go our separate ways
But you say:

Chorus 1:
Baby we're gonna be together forever
You know I'll always catch you when you fall
Your Prince Charming is strong and tall
You're not another girl on my bedroom wall
You're the one and only, you win it all
I'll bring you flowers
To your conferences in Dubai
'Cause I'm your Prince Charming,
Your Prince Charming
He says:

It's been so lonely during the night
Without you right by my side
So I'll think of you as the star you are
If I could feel your touch just one more time
So I say:

Chorus 2:
Baby we're gonna be together forever
You know I'll always answer when you call
Your Princess can hear it all
You're not another guy on my bedroom wall
You're the one and only you win it all
I'll meet you backstage at Carnegie Hall
'Cause baby, I'm your Princess
Your Princess

Bridge:
I know we'll run into each other
Along our road to victory
But if we don't just remember
The way we kissed when we first met
He says:

Baby we're gonna be together forever
You know I'll always catch you when you fall
Your Prince Charming is strong and tall

Chorus 1

Time goes by, I'm still waiting
You stood me up again
Your excuses are lame
I know what you've been doing
But I just can't walk away

You can't decide
You're torn between the two of us
Well I can't breathe
You're slowly killing me

Chorus:
It tears me up inside
She'll hold you back from life
Don't give up on me
I can give you what you need
I want you here with me
Tell me this isn't goodbye
No, not this time

Going crazy, losing my mind,
Could this really be the end?
So many times you said you were leaving
But you always came running back

You're so distant these days
You ain't torn between the two of us
Now I see
You love her more than me

Bridge:
You're packing up your stuff
Without even looking at me
How did it ever get like this?
And now I'm on my knees
Begging you baby please
Don't leave me

Chorus

Whoa, it's over, my heart is broken
Whoa, we've come undone
'Cause you're on your way out

Front door closes
I'm calling out your name
But you've already walked away
Head against the wall
My heart's upon the floor
Pieces of our love that is no more
But I won't let go
Of what you've already left behind (left behind)

Chorus:
I've been wishing and praying all night long
Hoping someday baby you'll come back
I'm in a hole and I can't quite get out
It's feeling lonely and tough without you here

Pulled out the box, with the old photographs
Memories and reminders of our past
So many pictures, kissing and holding hands
Our love story had just began

How can I let go?
Can't let the image fade away (fade away)

Chorus

One day just one day is all I need
I'll make it better if you'll only stay with me

Bridge:
Somehow I'll get you back
Just to love you again
'Cause it can't end this way
These mistakes that I've made
I'll never make them again
If you'll only come back to me

Chorus 2:
I've been searching and crying all night long
Hoping someday baby you'll come back
I've got regrets that I can't quite explain
Give me a chance so I can make them disappear
One day just one day is all I need
I'll make it better if you'll only stay with me

Front door closes, I'm calling out your name
But you've already walked away

Standing here, all alone,
Wishing you'd pick up the phone (pick up the phone)
Crazy how things turn upside down
In the fraction of a minute you can lose it all (you can lose it all)

Here I am, all alone,
Another Friday night and I'm at home
Sitting here, TV on
Wondering how I'll carry on

Chorus:
And I could wait patiently
While you dance with someone else
And I could wait patiently
While you drop her off at home
If you only knew
The things she kept from you
Got you convinced that
I am not the one for you

Reflecting on the past
To see what happened last
Was it something I said
Was something I did (something I did)
Somehow a 20 second video call
Could end it all (could end it all)

Here I am, all alone
Saturday night and I'm at home
Sitting here, TV on
Wondering how I'll carry on

Chorus

Bridge:
Saw you today with your friends
Now you're making your way to me
Here we are face to face
Now I know that I should let go

Chorus

1-2-3-4!

A Band-Aid can't cover the damage he did
I need a Love Doctor I need him quick

We have fallen down
And I'm way past the danger zone
These wounds won't heal
Time can't fix everything
It's a love emergency
I need a doctor's help

Chorus:
A Band-Aid can't cover the damage he did
I need a Love Doctor, I need him quick
My heart is broken and it needs to be fixed
I need a Love Doctor, I need him quick

He walked out the door
Without looking back, with no regrets
He tore me to pieces
Need someone to put me together again
The wait was long, but it's my turn,
Hope this does the trick

Chorus

Bridge:
Oooh, my situation is critical
(my situation is critical)
Oooh, waiting for a miracle
(waiting for a miracle)
Looks like I'm cured,
Doc says I'll be fine
(Doc says I'll be fine)

Chorus

A Band-Aid can't cover the damage he did
I need a Love Doctor I need him quick

Finding love, ain't as easy as it seems
Well I've tried, and tried
But for some reason I'm never satisfied
I know, that my Mr. Right is out there somewhere
He'll be the one, to hold the key
That'll unlock my heart

Chorus:
I'll find my way
Until you come around, yeah, ooh, yeah!
And out of the blue
I'll know I've found you
'Cause your love will lift me up so high
It'll blow me away

Like Indy Jones
I'm out to find my hidden treasure
Close to the end, then start again
Trying to find mystical love
To finally find it, and fall in love
Will you be there to catch me?

Chorus

Bridge:
Even though it might be tough
I'm strong and I won't give up
I'll get there somehow
This journey might be rough
but I know I won't give up
I'll get there somehow

Finding love, ain't as easy as it seems

Chorus:
I'll find my way
Until you come around, yeah, ooh, yeah!
And out of the blue I'll know I've found you
One day you'll complete my ...
